| What is a placenta previa or a low lying placenta? |
What is a placenta previa? A placenta previa occurs when the placenta covers, or is near the cervical opening or os. If the fetus implants low in the uterus, the placenta develops in this location, and can complicate pregnancy and delivery. A low lying placenta occurs if the placental tip is near the cervix. See my links below for full explanations of the diagnosis, management and delivery strategies of these entities.
What is a placenta accreta? A placenta accreta is an abnormal implantation of the placenta. This is a very dangerous condition. See below for my full description of placenta accreta: the diagnosis, management and treatment of placenta accreta.
